PT Masmindo Dwi Area (MDA), in collaboration with the Luwu Regency Office of Cooperatives, UMKM and Industry, conducted a capacity-building training program for 42 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (UMKM) entrepreneurs from 21 villages within MDA’s operational area in Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi. The training was conducted in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) and the Faculty of Economics and Business of Universitas Muhammadiyah Palopo.

The training is one of the stages of the 2026 Resota UMKM program, which is part of the implementation of MDA’s Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM), particularly the Jaga Masa Depan Desa pillar. The program was developed based on the needs and aspirations of village communities gathered through the FORDES MATAPPA Village Forum.

The term “Resota” comes from the local Luwu language and refers to the fruits of hard work and perseverance. The name “Resota” represents the spirit and aspirations of all stakeholders to sincerely support UMKM in becoming more independent and contributing to the well-being of communities surrounding MDA’s operational areas.

The training series was held from September 22–26, 2026. During the five-day training, participants were guided to understand the position and challenges of their respective businesses, business licensing procedures, and financial record-keeping. UMKM entrepreneurs were also trained to utilize digital promotional channels to expand their networks and reach broader markets. The training series concluded with the selection and designation of 10 selected UMKM that will receive capital assistance packages from MDA as well as business mentoring from Universitas Muhammadiyah Palopo (UMP).

The opening of Resota UMKM was attended by MDA Director of Human Capital and Corporate Services Muhammad Suhada; Head of the Luwu Regency Office of Cooperatives, UMKM and Industry, Drs. Bustan, S.E., M.Si.; Head of the Luwu Regency Office of Community and Village Empowerment, Achmad Awwabin; Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Muhammadiyah Palopo, Dr. Antong, S.E., M.Si., CPIA., CTA., ACPA.; and representatives of the Faculty of Economics and Business of Hasanuddin University.

In his remarks, Muhammad Suhada encouraged all participants to make hard work and sincere effort the guiding principles in managing and developing UMKM in Luwu Regency. This spirit is aligned with MDA’s corporate values: measurable, accountable, teamwork, agility, persistent, and passionate, which are summarized as MATAPPA, a term that also means faith and confidence.

“The fundamental principle is hard work and sincere effort. We must believe that hard work never betrays the results. What we sow is what we will reap. This is the initial stage in strengthening the community’s capacity and independence in entrepreneurship. Through collaboration among various stakeholders, we hope that UMKM can continue to grow and create broader benefits for the people of Luwu Regency,” said Suhada.

Meanwhile, Head of the Luwu Regency Office of Cooperatives, UMKM and Industry, Drs. Bustan, M.Si., expressed his appreciation for MDA’s support for UMKM development in Luwu Regency.

“We are very grateful to Masmindo for organizing this program. On several occasions, we have brought MDA-supported cooperatives and UMKM to participate in exhibition events. Alhamdulillah, the processed products made by these UMKM have been well received in the market,” said Bustan.

Bustan expressed his hope that Resota UMKM would have a positive impact on the development of MDA-supported UMKM.

“Hopefully, capacity-building programs like this will continue to improve the quality of UMKM in Luwu Regency, particularly in MDA’s operational areas,” he said.

The Resota UMKM training serves as an initial step toward the sustainable development of UMKM in MDA’s operational areas. Following the training, MDA will continue to support the MSMEs by involving FORDES MATAPPA in monitoring the development of UMKM in each village. The involvement of FORDES MATAPPA is expected to strengthen the connection between UMKM development programs and the needs of village communities, while also encouraging program sustainability at the village level.

MDA, together with the Luwu Regency Government and other stakeholders, will continue to strengthen the capacity of local entrepreneurs so that UMKM can play an increasingly significant role in driving the village economy and supporting the economic independence of communities within MDA’s operational areas.
