PT Masmindo Dwi Area Conducts the Mangngolo Ri Arajang Ceremony as Part of Blasting Activity Socialization

PT Masmindo Dwi Area (MDA) held the traditional Mangngolo Ri Arajang ceremony in Kedatuan Luwu on Sunday afternoon (15/6) as part of a series of socialization events for the upcoming measured and controlled blasting activities. This ceremony represents MDA's respect for local wisdom as well as a traditional request for cultural blessing before undertaking a crucial stage in mining operations.

The event took place at Salassae Kedatuan Luwu and was led by YM Cenning Luwu Hj Andi ST Husaima, Opu Daeng Ripajung, and representatives of Kedatuan Luwu. The ceremony was attended by Anak Tellue, Maddika Bua, Maddika Ponrang, Makole Baebunta, as well as traditional leaders representing Latimojong, Maddika Ulusalu, and members of MDA management, led by the Head of Mining Engineering (KTT).

The Mangngolo Ri Arajang ceremony is a form of respect for the traditional and spiritual values of the Luwu community. Symbolically, it serves as a request for blessings from all living beings—both visible and invisible—for the smooth implementation of a major endeavor, including planned mining activities.

In a speech delivered on behalf of YM Opu Cenning by YM Maddika Bua, it was stated that every major step on the land of Luwu should begin with good intentions and respect for customs. “Blasting is part of industrial activity that has certainly been calculated technically. But in Luwu, we believe that every movement must be in harmony with cultural blessings and local wisdom. We welcome MDA's step in seeking blessings—not only fulfilling technical obligations but also honoring the values of our ancestors,” they emphasized.

Previously, MDA conducted a series of technical socializations with communities around the mining area and coordinated with the Luwu Regency Government, Forkopimda, and village officials. During these sessions, MDA explained aspects such as safety, safe blasting radius, and impact mitigation procedures.

MDA’s Head of Mining Engineering, Mustafa Ibrahim, stated that blasting is a crucial part of the mining process and is carried out safely and under control.

“Our blasting activities are designed with high safety standards and have met all permit requirements from both the Police and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM),” he said.

This activity is part of MDA’s collaborative approach to building strong relationships with the community and customary institutions. The ceremony also serves as a reminder that mining is not only about technicalities and investment, but also about sensitivity and respect for the values that live within the community. ***
