PT Masmindo Dwi Area Extends Its Deepest Condolences for the Landslide Disaster in Dusun Padang, Rante Balla Village.

Rante Balla, January 26, 2025 – PT Masmindo Dwi Area (MDA) expresses its deepest condolences for the landslide disaster that occurred on the public road in Dusun Padang, Rante Balla Village. According to received information, the incident resulted in two fatalities and four injuries.

MDA's Head of Mining Engineering, Mustafa Ibrahim, stated, “On behalf of MDA management, I extend our deepest condolences for this tragedy. We express our heartfelt sympathies to the families who have lost their loved ones and pray that they find strength during this difficult time. For those who were injured, we hope for a swift recovery.”

The landslide took place on a public road that also serves as one of the access routes to the MDA site. During the incident, several partner employees of MDA, who had just completed excavator maintenance duties in the Kandeapi area, received a travel warning to avoid site entry and exit due to severe weather conditions and landslides on the Dusun Padang road. They decided to take temporary shelter at a local resident’s house nearby. While resting, they received a plea for help from residents whose vehicle was trapped in the landslide area. Driven by humanitarian concern, the partner employees took the initiative to assist in evacuating the stranded residents and their vehicle. However, during the evacuation process, a secondary landslide occurred, resulting in injuries to the partner employees, while the residents they were trying to save tragically lost their lives.

MDA Emergency Response Measures

To assist in handling the situation, MDA deployed its Emergency Response Team (ERT) with various forms of support, including rescue personnel to aid in victim evacuation, doctors and paramedics equipped with adequate medications and medical supplies, and ambulance units to transport victims to the nearest healthcare facility.

Additionally, MDA contributed heavy equipment to facilitate debris clearance and evacuation efforts, including one 30-ton excavator, one 20-ton excavator, one wheel loader, and one bulldozer. Furthermore, MDA has collaborated with relevant security authorities, involving MDA security personnel, TNI members, Brimob units, Luwu Police, and the Luwu Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).

Mustafa added, “As part of the Rante Balla community, we are committed to providing full support for post-disaster recovery using all available resources. We hope these efforts will help accelerate recovery and alleviate the burden on affected communities.”

Commitment to Post-Disaster Recovery

MDA will continue to work in synergy with the government and relevant parties to accelerate recovery efforts, both in terms of infrastructure and community support. We firmly believe that through collaboration and mutual assistance, the community will be able to resume their daily activities as before.

“We strongly urge the public to remain vigilant, especially during the rainy season, to avoid potential disaster risks,” Mustafa concluded.
