PT Masmindo Dwi Area (MDA) and the Luwu Regency Government today signed two strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen collaboration between the private sector and local government in advancing regional development. These MoUs focus on two key areas: employment and environmental stewardship, particularly around the operational area of the Awak Mas Project in Latimojong District.
The environmental MoU highlights the importance of preserving the Suso River Basin (DAS Suso) and the areas along the mine’s logistics corridor. The agreement outlines periodic revitalization and maintenance of environmental infrastructure, with responsibilities shared proportionally between the government and the company.
The employment MoU, on the other hand, focuses on the provision of information and a structured system for local workforce recruitment. This agreement enables a more transparent, inclusive, and locally focused recruitment process for the Awak Mas Project, while still adhering to the company’s recruitment standards and procedures.
Luwu Regent H. Patahudding, S.Ag., expressed his appreciation for MDA’s initiative in formalizing a partnership that strengthens the relationship between industry and local government.
“We warmly welcome this agreement as a sign of mutual trust and collaboration. These MoUs provide opportunities for public participation and help ensure that development aligns with local values,” he said.
Echoing this sentiment, MDA President Director Trisakti Simorangkir emphasized the crucial role of local government as a strategic partner in the sustainable operation of the project.
“We believe that the success of the mining industry cannot be separated from the involvement of the local community and government. Through these MoUs, we aim to ensure that MDA’s presence delivers balanced benefits for both our operations and the communities living alongside us,” Trisakti stated.
Through the signing of these agreements, MDA and the Luwu Regency Government reaffirm that industrial presence can go hand-in-hand with environmental conservation and community development. These MoUs also serve as benchmarks for maintaining strong institutional relations, where compliance and regional contribution will remain central to the sustainability of the partnership going forward.
