MDA Attends Investment Acceleration Task Force Invitation to Discuss Mining Ring Dynamics

Luwu – The Investment Acceleration Task Force (Satgas) convened a coordination meeting with PT Masmindo Dwi Area (MDA), relevant Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), the Investment Acceleration Working Group (Pokja) of Luwu Regency, as well as Human Capital (HC) representatives from each of MDA’s contractors to discuss ongoing developments in the mining ring area.

This activity forms part of the Task Force’s efforts to ensure that social stability and investment sustainability in Luwu Regency remain well maintained through strengthened cross-sector coordination.

During the forum, Moh. Arsal Arsyad, Head of Bappelitbangda and Secretary of the Investment Acceleration Task Force, emphasized that any dynamics in the mining ring area must be addressed swiftly and in a coordinated manner to prevent them from escalating into broader issues.

“Investment is an integral part of regional development, but social stability is its foundation. Therefore, any developments in the field must be promptly communicated and handled collectively, rather than allowed to persist,” said Arsal.

He added that the Task Force’s role is not only to ensure the smooth administration of investments, but also to maintain a balance between business certainty and the interests of surrounding communities.

On this occasion, members of the Working Group and Human Capital representatives from each of MDA’s contractors shared several challenges encountered in the field, particularly those related to employment dynamics and community expectations. Various constructive inputs were gathered as part of efforts to formulate more systematic and coordinated joint solutions.

MDA Director Erlangga Gaffar stated that the company understands the high expectations of the community regarding employment opportunities within the project. However, he emphasized that, realistically, the number of available vacancies will never be sufficient to accommodate the entire workforce demand in areas surrounding the project site.

“We fully understand and appreciate the community’s enthusiasm for employment opportunities at MDA. However, the number of available positions is limited and cannot possibly accommodate all existing workforce needs. Therefore, we hope for the support of all parties in managing these expectations wisely and in a structured manner, while ensuring a transparent recruitment process,” Erlangga said.

He further added that MDA’s contribution to the region is not solely measured by the number of directly employed workers. Ongoing investment activities also stimulate economic circulation through the involvement of local businesses, regional contractors, and suppliers of goods and services within the operational area.

“MDA’s presence is not only about direct job opportunities. There is economic circulation that grows, partnerships with local businesses, and Community Development and Empowerment Programs (PPM) that we implement to ensure the benefits of investment are felt more broadly and sustainably,” he added.

Through this coordination, the Investment Acceleration Task Force reaffirmed concrete steps to strengthen cross-OPD and Working Group coordination, and to ensure that any emerging dynamics can be promptly addressed in a swift and measurable manner in order to maintain regional stability and investment sustainability.
