Collaboration between MDA and Indika Foundation Drives the Development of Luwu’s Young Generation Potential

PT Masmindo Dwi Area (MDA), in collaboration with the Indika Foundation, implemented the Masmindo Mengajar Tumbuhkan Potensi dan Inspirasi (MENTARI) program at SMKN 2 Luwu and SMAN 14 Luwu. This initiative was also carried out in partnership with the Luwu District Education Office as part of a shared commitment to improving the quality of education and developing the capacity of young people in communities surrounding the Awak Mas Project operational area.

This collaboration is not only reflected through the MENTARI program, but also forms part of a broader series of social initiatives that will continue to be developed in the future, in line with both parties’ commitment to creating positive and sustainable impacts for the community.

The MENTARI program itself is designed to bridge the gap between education and industry by bringing Masmindo employees directly into schools through an employee volunteering approach. This allows students to gain real insights into the working world and explore potential career paths for the future.

Dozens of students participated enthusiastically from the beginning to the end of the sessions. The Indika Foundation team delivered self-awareness materials to help students better understand their strengths, interests, and talents as a foundation for shaping their future paths.

The interactive learning methods encouraged active participation and created a dynamic classroom atmosphere. Meanwhile, the MDA team provided education on the mining industry, including mining processes, various career opportunities, and the skills required.

This presentation offered students a more comprehensive understanding of the mining industry’s contribution to regional development. MDA’s Head of Mining Engineering (KTT), Mustafa Ibrahim, emphasized that the development of local human resources is a crucial part of the company’s operational sustainability.

“Through the Masmindo Mengajar program, we aim to broaden young people’s perspectives on the mining industry. Not everyone will have the opportunity to work in this sector, but that does not mean they should not understand how it operates and contributes to regional development. This program also reflects our support for developing the capacity of young people, especially in communities around our operations, so they are better prepared to enter the workforce and to foster competitive local talent.”

One of the students, Tiara, who also serves as Vice Chair of the Student Council at SMKN 2 Luwu, shared her positive impression of the program.

“The MENTARI program is very beneficial for me and my friends, especially for those interested in working in the mining sector. We now better understand that this industry has many stages and career opportunities,” she said.

She also expressed hope that similar programs would continue and reach more schools in Luwu Regency. “I hope this activity can also be implemented in other schools, so more students can benefit from this knowledge,” she added.

Rahmi, a student from SMAN 14 Luwu, also shared her thoughts on the activity. “This program is very interesting and has broadened our knowledge about the working world, especially in mining,” she said.

As part of its support for students’ non-academic development, the Indika Foundation also provided donations in the form of balls and sports equipment to the schools. This support is expected to enhance student activities and encourage the development of interests and talents in sports.

Through the MENTARI program, MDA and the Indika Foundation continue to deliver tangible contributions to the community—not only in education, but also in the sustainable development of human resources in Luwu Regency—aligned with the company’s commitment to Community Development and Empowerment Programs (PPM) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
